In John chapter ten, verses six through ten, Jesus says, “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me were thieves and robbers. But the true sheep did not listen to them. Yes I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures. The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”
I love the assurance that Jesus gives us in these verses. When I interacted with him as the consciousness of the sun I felt his deep love for all humanity, and his desire to guide human beings on a spiritual path that doesn’t endanger our souls. This is why he tells us above that he is the gate through which we pass to spiritual safety.
It is clear that he wants us to use discernment about folks who may use his name for profit. This is something that only he and God can judge, and no human beings can know what is truly in the heart of other people. Since there is so much in the media being said about this or that servant of Christ, there is no need to cover that in this blog. I personally want to believe that though some people who witness for Christ may seem more involved with profit than is congruent with the example Christ himself set for us, there are many people whom they are helping despite this being true.
But he does warn us here about people who want to ‘steal and kill and destroy’. He makes it clear to us that it is through him, and him alone, that we are allowed to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, and through him that we are able to attain a richness and satisfaction in knowing that we have been saved and protected by the Prince of Peace. We have to continue to walk our spiritual path after repenting and asking for forgiveness, of course; Christ makes it clear in the Bible that those that don’t produce good fruit will be cut off. But in these verses he promises us that our lives will be full of satisfaction, that of living life for the most loving being in existence, Jesus Christ.
