Jeremiah chapter 9, verses 23 and 24, reads, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. But those who wish to boast should boast this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I delight in these things. I, the Lord, have spoken!”
This is a really powerful passage and it is yet another reminder from the Bible of just how different spiritual laws are than those laws that we are governed by on earth. When we are growing up we are bombarded by messages about what makes us desirable as people and how things like physical attractiveness or material wealth will make us into people who are successful. This may be true by earthly standards but God is making it clear here that these values mean nothing in the Kingdom of heaven.
In these lines God is telling us to seek to know him and to understand that the qualities that he values are the ones he himself exhibits: love, mercy, and compassion. When I interacted with Christ as the consciousness of the Sun I was overwhelmed at how much love and compassion I felt coming from him; someone I hadn’t even fully believed in loved me with a such a dept of compassion and mercy that it is impossible to put into words.
When we repent of our transgressions and ask Christ to forgive us, we are seeking to know God and Christ as they are described above. We commit to growing in this knowledge by obeying the commands Christ gave us to love God with all our hearts, love others as ourselves, and serve the poor and disadvantaged. Through committing to obedience to Christ and God as our spiritual authorities we attain Salvation for our souls and adopt spiritual values, instead of worldly ones, to guide our lives.
