“Children of the light”

In John 12, verses 35 and 36, Jesus tells a crowd of listeners, “My light will shine for you just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going. Put your trust in the light while there is still time, then you will become children of the light.

These are such beautiful verses, and they resonate for me as someone who interacted with Christ as the consciousness of the Sun while using a legal substance over a few years. I always notice the allusions to Christ as light that are frequent in the Bible, since I had such moving experiences of being draped in his holy light and begin given a peace and calm and depth of unconditional love that I had never known before.

I had a profound experience on the eclipse of 2017 after using this substance, in which I was given a vision of myself poised on the edge of hell, about to fall in. I was standing on a little cross that was jutting out from the edge of the pit, and this was the only thing that was keeping me from falling in.

It was a profoundly scary vision, and it was really driven home to me that day that Christ in his mercy has the power to forgive the transgressions against ourselves and others that cause us to be vulnerable to falling into this dark place. Just as the verse above says that people who walk in darkness can’t see where they are going, I had no idea that I was endangering the life of my soul until I had this experience.

Even though I had been very vocal about my disbelief in the reality of Christ’s existence, I have been forgiven by Christ for my transgressions against him and others. He showed me that he had purified my soul of these transgressions and made it like new.

I had to see these things happen to realize the spiritual reality of all the things that I had heard growing up in church. I understand looking back that this had to be my path, and I see that I wouldn’t have come to understand Salvation any other way.

Christ doesn’t want any of us to fall into the hell realms, and he offers us a way out, if we accept his purification of our souls by repenting and asking his forgiveness. When we do this, we ask him into our lives to guide us to a new way of living that brings us gradually closer to him and God so that we don’t have to live a life that endangers our souls or puts us at risk of falling back into our previous habits.

When we accept Salvation and the spiritual guidance that it can bring to us, we accept the spiritual authority of God and Christ, and we truly become children of the light, like the verses above refer to. I hope everyone will make this very important decision for the life of their soul, to “put your trust in the light, while there is still time” so that our salvation will be assured.
