In the chapter of Jude, verses 20 and 21, we are told, “But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.”
I had a really hard night at work tonight and these verses really calmed me. There was so much that went wrong, and so many things that could have gotten under my skin. I tried to get through it as best I could with a positive attitude, knowing that if I just kept plowing forward it would soon be over.
When I got home tonight and opened my Bible and read these verses I felt a sense of peace come over me. I had to resist being negative tonight and these verses reminded me why that is so important. Jesus went through such an ordeal to come to earth and teach all of us how to become purified by the Salvation he grants us if we repent of our sins and ask forgiveness, and make him the spiritual authority in our lives.
When we accept the Salvation he offers us it gives us the safety that Jude refers to. We know that no matter what trivial matters may transpire during a day, our souls are safe in the loving arms of God and Christ. This is the most important commitment anyone can make, and once we have done this, we can let all the minor details of our daily lives flow past us like water flowing under a bridge.
I am so relieved now that I didn’t get caught up in negativity about how the night went. These verses reminded me that my soul is in Christ’s hands, that that is the most important thing. When I have this assurance I know that I don’t have to attach to the insignificant details of life, because they always pass. It is eternity that matters, and with Christ at the helm of my life I can rest assured that the most important thing is taken care of, and let the minor details go.
