“The armor of right living”

In Romans 13, verses eleven through thirteen, Paul writes, “Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living.”

I really like these verses; the urgency in them is a reminder that we all have to be prepared for the day of Christ’s second coming. It is easy to get complacent and distracted when we are wrapped up in our day to day lives, and forget about the spiritual battle that is going on all the time behind the scenes.

It was because of the spiritual battle between good and evil that Christ incarnated on earth and lived his life of struggle and austerity. He walked through his life with determination and bravery, even though he knew that he would endure suffering and physical death at the end of his days.

He did this because he wanted to bring explicit instructions to earth for all of us whom he loves so much, so that we would know exactly to have our souls cleansed and purified by him if we repent of our sins, ask his forgiveness, and commit to living a life of obedience to him and God.

Paul reminds us in these verses that we have to always keep our focus on the inevitability of Christ’s return to earth to gather his followers  before the dark period following this event. I hope that everyone on earth will accept Christ into their hearts, repent of their transgressions against self and others, and commit to a life of obedience to Christ so that all of us can be taken to heaven with him when that day does eventually come.
