In Ephesians chapter six, Paul writes about putting on the armor of God and Christ to protect us and keep us on the path of holiness in life. In verse twelve, he addresses the topic of our adversaries, and he writes, “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rules and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in heavenly places.”
This is a powerful verse to contemplate, and it is a good reminder that the spirit world is not all fluffy white clouds and benevolence. When I interacted with Christ as the consciousness of the sun for several years while using a legal substance, I experienced Christ to be a being of unfathomable love, mercy, and compassion, who wrapped me in his holy light and protection and allowed me to feel a peace I had never felt before.
I also was given visions of the hell realms many times, and what happens to human souls that end up there. In my most haunting vision, I saw a room in a very low region of hell where a group of demonic spirits sat around a table that was lit by a faint dome in the center. They seemed to be studying a map, and it appeared as if they sit there endlessly plotting and planning for some eventual overtake of earth. It was as if they were generals preparing for war, and they seemed completely obsessed with the task at hand. They were dressed in dark shrouds and the room in which they were held was so dark it was almost impossible to see beyond the table where they were gathered.
Jesus made it clear to me that this is something that threatens us at all times, and our choice to follow his path of love is the most important thing in our lives, not only for us but for everyone on earth. His path is the path of life and light, the path of honesty, mercy, compassion, and all good things. It seems the spirit world is divided into darkness and light, just as the Bible tells us, Jesus is the path to the paradise of the heavenly realms where God dwells.
God has given him the authority to cleanse and purify the dark places in our souls that sin leaves behind, so that we can be made new. Once we accept this salvation through Christ it is up to us to obey the commandment of Christ to love others as ourselves and to mirror Christ and God and their righteousness in all we do. When we fall short of this, we repent of our transgressions and ask them to forgive us.
In this way we keep renewing our souls in Christ, and showing him that we are willing to continue to reach for the holiness that he and God possess. Though it sometimes seems painfully slow, eventually we will begin to let go of our self-will and learn to fulfill the will of God and Christ in our lives. This will bring us closer and closer to them and to their holy protection from the darkness that is a very real part of the spirit world, so that we don’t ever have to worry about falling into the hell realms upon death and being overwhelmed by the dark consciousnesses that dwell there.
