“Everything is possible with God”

In Mark 10, verse 26, the disciples ask Jesus how anyone can be saved, because they have just heard him list the commandments and talk about how it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich person to get into heaven.  Jesus answers their question by saying, in verse 27, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God.”

It is clear from these verses that Jesus is telling us that we need to have a connection with God in order to attain spiritual purification and Salvation. We live in the physical world, in a carnal existence, being acted on by the desires of our senses every minute of every day.

But Jesus came to earth in physical form to explain to us that we can form a relationship with him as the authority in our lives if we repent to him of our transgressions and ask his forgiveness. If we make this commitment to live by his teachings, he and God will take our lives in their hands and begin to reshape us, so that we move further and further from the distractions and temptations of this world and toward a state of being that is less dangerous to our souls.

This grace that God grants us allows us to attain spiritual purification and protection from Jesus, if we accept him into our lives. It doesn’t mean that we can accept Salvation and then go on our merry way, back to our old habits, but that we have to slowly change, with his guidance, everything about ourselves that endangers our soul and threatens to distract us from having Christ and God at the center of our lives.
