“Temptations are inevitable”

In Matthew 18, verses seven through nine, Jesus tells us, “What sorrow awaits the world, because it tempts people to sin. Temptations are inevitable, but what sorrow awaits the person who does the tempting. So if your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand or one foot than to be thrown into eternal fire with both of your hands and feet. And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.”

These verses from Jesus are very sobering to meditate on. He really gives us a strong warning about the outcome of sin and how it is better to avoid it entirely no matter what lengths we have to go to to do so.

I think these verses are intended to shock us into really thinking about what we are doing at all times. Jesus, of course, loves us with a love that is so deep that it is almost impossible for human beings to comprehend. He and God do not want any of us to descend to the hell realms upon death. Christ and God both made a sacrifice of suffering by allowing Jesus to come here and share with us the means to Salvation through repentance and forgiveness of our transgressions. When we accept the spiritual Salvation that Christ offers to us, and become determined to live a life of obedience to his teachings, he will enter our lives and begin to direct us away from things that can cause damage to our souls.

This is vitally important to the health of our souls; it is the most important decision that any human being can make, to submit our lives to the spiritual authority of God and Christ. They live in the spiritual world and they know the laws and rules of their dominion. Christ came here earth and endured tremendous suffering so that he could bring us knowledge of how to have our souls healed from the wounds that our transgressions leave in our spirit. We do this by repenting to him of our wrongs and asking his forgiveness. When we do this, and commit to live a life of obedience to his principles, he will heal our souls and then he will come into our hearts and begin to heal our lives. He wants to do this for every one of us, and I hope that every single person will allow him to do so, so that we can all be together with Christ in heaven one day.
