In Matthew chapter six, Jesus is telling us not to worry so much about the details of life, and to rely on him and God to provide for our needs. He says, in verses 31 through 33, “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear? These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”
When I interacted with Christ as the consciousness of the Sun, while using a legal substance over a few years, the feeling of being surrounded by his light and love was one of complete peace. I felt warm and safe and protected in a way that I had never experienced before, and I felt that all my needs were met. It was as if being in his presence was a place of complete spiritual nourishment, as if he was capable of supplying everything my soul longed for.
I have done some dumpster diving here and there over the years, and it always amazed me that I would find what I was in needed of. One time I needed a scarf, and I found about ten brand new scarves with the price tags still on them. Another time, I was wanting some socks, and I found the most comfortable pair of brand new socks that I have ever owned. It was as if God was answering my prayers without me even praying for these things, because like Jesus says, he knows exactly what our needs are.
I recently adopted a new dog, and when I went to drop off the trash at the landfill, there was a ceramic dog bowl sitting in front of the dumpster. I asked the attendant if a dog lived there, and he said no, that someone had just left it there instead of throwing it in. I wasn’t in need of one at my house, but I was going to my cousin’s house where my dog was getting in the habit of eating out of her dog’s bowl. He isn’t well socialized, and I have to watch his weight as well, so having a dog bowl to leave at her house has really helped with his training to eat from his own bowl the amount he is allowed.
Instances like these have underscored for me the veracity of Jesus’ words that God knows every need and every intimate detail of our lives. His verses tell us that God will meet our every need, though we have to be careful not to confuse our wants with our needs. When it is something that we legitimately need, God and Christ will always take care of us. They want us to focus on living a life of obedience to Christ’s commandments in the Bible, and bringing our behavior in line with the righteousness that they desire for us, and to trust that they will guide us on the path that they want us to follow.
