In John 19, the crucifixion of Christ is written about. This is an emotional chapter for me to read, as it is for every follower of Christ. Even in his darkest and most painful hour, though, Christ’s compassion comes shining through. In verses 25 through 27, we are told, “Standing near the cross were Jesus’ mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary (the wife of Clopas), and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her, ‘Dear woman, here is your son.’ And he said to this disciple, ‘Here is your mother.’ And from then on this disciple took her into his home.”
This is an amazing set of verses to read, when one considers the pain that Jesus must have been in in that moment. He had been treated so brutally, and was at death’s doorstep, yet even in that moment he has compassion for someone besides himself. Even in that moment of physical torment and suffering, he finds love in his heart to bestow a blessing on his mother, and to allow her the assurance of being provided for in her time of grief and anguish.
When I interacted with Jesus as the consciousness of the Sun, our star, while using a legal substance over a few years, I found him to be an unbelievably deeply compassionate and merciful being. I struggle daily to find the words to express the depth of love that I felt coming from this sacred being, and from God the Father as well. Their love for us is why they agreed for Jesus to incarnate here on earth and give us the message of Salvation for our souls through repentance and forgiveness of our sins.
Without this deep love, Jesus could not have walked bravely toward his fate, knowing the entire time that that he would meet a brutal and painful end. He did this out of a love for us that is so deep and strong that it is almost impossible for human beings to comprehend. He knew that at this point in human history we needed to have it explained to us explicitly how to attain the spiritual purification of our souls, by submitting to the authority of God and Christ over our lives.
He came here and faced this fate bravely, in order to save human beings from falling into the hell realms upon our deaths. Even in his hour of pain, he asked for God’s forgiveness for his tormentors, and he asked one of his disciples to care for his mother and give her support that she would need at that time in her life. I am over-awed by this act of compassion from Christ, especially given the circumstances. I hope everyone will accept the love that Christ wants to give all of us, and allow him to grant us the purification of our souls that he died to bring us this message of. In this way, we honor this brave and incomprehensible sacrifice of his, and bring him and God unspeakable joy at knowing we will join them in the heavenly realms one day.
