“I have overcome the world”

In John 16, verses 32 and 33, Jesus tells his disciples, “Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me. I have told you this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

This is one of the things that Jesus tells his disciples to prepare them for the sorrowful events to come. He is trying to do all he can to prepare them to go through his execution knowing that though terrible things are to come, on the other side of it there will be great joy because he is to be resurrected and proven to be the Son of God.

Just as in the verses from the prior chapter that I wrote about last night, Jesus tells us that we may have peace in him; he doesn’t just say ‘with’ him, but in him, as if to say that when we are followers of Christ we are in his holy love and protection, which is what I experienced when I interacted with him while using a legal substance over several years. I interacted with Christ as the consciousness of the Sun, and he always surrounded me in his beautiful golden light, and a love so tranquil and calming that I felt as if I lacked for absolutely nothing; being enveloped in his presence was like being in my true home.

In the last verse he tells us that he has overcome the world, and it is clear that he means that if we remain in him, in his love, as he tells us to, we will be allowed to overcome the world as well. We may have trials and troubles while we are here, but if we accept him into our hearts and lives and repent of our sins and ask forgiveness, and allow him to come into our lives and direct our path, he will claim us as his own and allow us to join him and God in our heavenly home.
