In John 15, verses 9 through 12, Jesus tells us, “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.”
Jesus keeps telling us in the chapter of John to remain in him, and to remain in his love. These verses really resonate with me because when I interacted with Jesus as the consciousness of the Sun, I literally felt like I was completely surrounded by him and enveloped in his unconditional love and radiant light. It was as if there was no separation between my being and his, as if he surrounded me completely and I was in total safety and protection.
These verses suggest that when we accept him into our lives, we connect ourselves to his being and literally become part of him. He doesn’t just tell us to love him, but to remain in him, as if we become a part of him when we accept his offering of spiritual salvation. Not only this, but he uses the word remain in this chapter over and over as well. These verses and others in the Gospels reiterate this concept, that we not only are compelled by God to accept Christ’s offering of salvation, but to remain in this state of spiritual rescue by Christ by living a life of obedience to his commandments to us to love God with all our hearts and to love others as ourselves.
Jesus makes it clear in these verses that our salvation is something we have to maintain by being true to his teachings. We have to submit to his spiritual authority over our lives, and to continue to repent to him of our transgressions and ask forgiveness, and to ask for the strength and power to let go of habits and behaviors that distance us from him and threaten the purification of our souls that he gives us when we accept him into our lives and repent.
He doesn’t want us to look at being saved by him as a one-time event, but a mode of living that gives him authority over our lives, something he already has, but which we openly acknowledge and submit to when we accept him into our hearts as Savior of our souls. He makes it clear that we will receive overflowing joy when we do this, as long as we continue to commit to a life of being obedient to the spiritual principles that he and God alone are qualified to guide us with. They alone are qualified to do this, because as sacred beings who inherit the spiritual plane, they know how to lead us down a path that will bring us into their glory in our heavenly home in the end of our present incarnation.
