“A light to shine in this dark world”

In John 12, verses 44 through 46, Jesus tells us, “If you trust me, you are trusting not only me, but also God who sent me. For when you see me, you are seeing the one who sent me. I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.”

These verses feel very comforting to me tonight. It has been cold and rainy all day today and yesterday as well, the kind of days that make it seem like weeks since the sun has shined. When I interacted with Christ while using a legal substance over several years, he came to me as the consciousness of the Sun, our star. He always wrapped me in his golden sunshine and enveloped me in a feeling of perfect radiance and bliss that was wonderful to be surrounded by.

I have a hard time describing these experiences in words, but the serenity I felt while wrapped in the presence of Christ was something that touched my soul and changed my life forever. It is a feeling of perfect unconditional love, and warmth and safety like I have never felt. I felt the same love coming from God, our Father, and when I read the verses above it gives me great comfort to know that they are so united.

Over and over in the Gospels Jesus tells us that he and God are as one being, that God gave him the words to say to us and that he and God are united in their quest to bring Salvation to humanity. Both of them took on an incredible amount of suffering in agreeing that Christ incarnate here on Earth to bring the message to humanity of how to attain spiritual purification so that we do not have to sink into the hell realms upon death.

Christ asks us to repent of our transgressions toward ourselves and others, and ask forgiveness of our sins so that he can heal the wounds in our souls that these transgressions leave. He wants to give us the gift of forgiveness so that our souls can be purified like they were on the day that we were born. He tells us above that he is of God and that trusting him is the same as trusting God; both of them love us with an unconditional love that is hard for us to comprehend, and they only desire that we accept the Salvation that Christ offers us and live our lives in obedience to the teachings of Christ, so that we can join them in the heavenly realms when we pass on, as their teachings promise.
