“Your mighty deeds”

In Psalm 70, verses 14 through 16, David writes, “But I will keep on hoping for your help; I will praise you more and more. I will tell everyone about your righteousness. All day long I will proclaim your saving power, though I am not skilled with words. I will praise your mighty deeds, O Sovereign Lord. I will tell everyone that you alone are just.”

I found these verses very heartening today when I read them. David makes a vow to God here to praise his name and to share with others the truth of God’s mercy and love. The last verse really resonated with me because when I was interacting with God using a legal substance over a few years I found that God is indeed the arbiter of justice in the universe.

I did not expect to encounter the God and Jesus that I learned about in my childhood religion when I was using this substance. I considered myself to be a secular person, with an agnostic bent. I was never an atheist, but I didn’t have a clear belief system and studied a lot of ancient mythology, as well as dabbling in eastern beliefs and paganism.

But I found that God is indeed controlling the universe and his son is Jesus Christ. Jesus came to me as the consciousness of the Sun, our star, and repeatedly enveloped me in his radiant light, love, warmth, and tranquility. Both of them love humanity with a love that is hard for humans to conceptualize, and they just want us to make the right decisions for our souls so that we can return to their presence when we pass from this earth.

God is truly a just god, like David says, and he loves humanity so much that he sent his son here to incarnate on earth to teach us how to have our souls purified by repenting of our transgressions and asking forgiveness. When we submit to the spiritual authority of Christ and God like this, Jesus will cleanse and purify our souls to the state they were in when we were born. We have to continue to repent whenever we transgress, and to follow the teachings of Christ and God in the Bible, and live a life of obedience to them, so that when our time comes we can join them in our heavenly home.
