In Luke 24, verses 38 through 40, Jesus has been resurrected and has just appeared to his disciples and other followers of his. They are astonished and think that they have seen a ghost, and Jesus says, “Why are you frightened? Why are your hearts filled with doubt? Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it is really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don’t have bodies, as you see that I do.”
I have wondered about this moment many times when I have read these verses, what it must have been like to be standing in the presence of Jesus after being certain that he had passed on.
His followers and disciples must have been struck dumb to see him standing there; probably it was hard for them to believe what had just happened, and they could not fathom how this could be true.
When I interacted with Christ using a legal substance, he healed some pain in my side that had been bothering me because of a prior surgery. He made it clear to me that he is a healer, not only of our souls but of our spirits as well. He demonstrated his sacred nature by the feat of resurrection, so that his disciples would be energized to spread the word of his nature as the Son of God all over the world.
It always amazes me to think of the valor and bravery that Jesus showed in coming here to earth knowing his fate, but he demonstrated the willingness to do it anyway, because his love for us is so limitless and unfathomably deep. He heals our spirits just as he heals the physical bodies of those afflicted with sickness or disability in the Bible, and all he wants is for us to accept the Salvation through repentance and forgiveness of sin that he offers us, so that he can heal our spirits, and cleanse our souls of all transgressions.
