“Those who hear God’s word”

In Luke chapter eight, verses  19 through 21, we are told, “Then Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they couldn’t get to him because of the crowd. Someone told Jesus, ‘Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, and they want to see you.’ Jesus replied, ‘My mother and my brothers are all those who hear God’s word and obey it.'”

The first thing that strikes me about these verses is that here is another instance in which Jesus uses the word ‘obey’, something that I completely missed growing up in my faith of birth as a Southern Baptist. I always thought of Jesus as sweet and kind, but it never sunk in that he actually commanded us to love others as ourselves, and to love God with all our hearts.

These were not suggestions, as I had interpreted them, but commands to be obeyed. It was only after interacting with Christ and God while using a legal substance that I realized this, and I gained understanding about why this is.

Christ and God are spirits, and they live in the spirit world. I interacted with Christ as the consciousness of the Sun, our star; he came to me as a being of radiant light that seemed to also be equal to love itself, and surrounded me in the most perfect feeling of tranquility that I have ever experienced.

I understood why, then, that Christ commands us; it is because he and God know the means by which we can receive purification of our souls and ascend to the heavenly realms upon our passing. They understand the nature of the spirit world, and they want us to end up there with them, instead of sinking to the hell realms upon death.

This is why Christ expresses such affinity with those who obey his teachings, and the teachings of God as laid out in the Bible. Christ also tells us in the Gospels that God is the Father of all our spirits, which makes Jesus Christ our brother, though he is also our spiritual authority and the to whom we owe apology when we transgress against our own souls. It is to him that apologize, or repent, and to him that we direct our request for forgiveness.

When we do this Christ can purify  or cleanse our souls of the scars or wounds that these sins or transgressions leave behind. This is how we receive Salvation through Christ, and I hope that everyone will accept this precious gift that Christ sacrificed and endured so much to bring to us.
